SoTD: Terrified

Story of the Year
Album: The Black Swan
—–
Here in this town, safe and guarded,
We call it home; a feeling that we share.
Now I leave this place, clinging to hope
And this midnight prayer.

If we hold our breath, float beyond this,
We’ll be reborn; I will carry us home.

Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
Providence is blind when you’re terrified.
Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
When we’ve reached the end of the road,
I will carry us home.

Oh no, if all I’ve said was only a hope,
And meaningless in truth;
Now will I expire holding the womb
In safety for you?

If we make it through, and I can save you,
With this heart, I know, I will carry us home.

Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
Providence is blind when you’re terrified.
Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
When we’ve reached the end of the road (reached the end of the road),
I will carry us home.

And now I’m so far away from you,
Will I be making any difference after leaving you all alone?
Now I’m so far away from home,
Can I justify my actions after leaving you
Here in this town, safe and guarded,
We call it home; a feeling that we share…

Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
Providence is blind when you’re terrified.
Are you still alive? If you’re scared inside (I will carry you home)
I will carry us home.

Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
Providence is blind when you’re terrified.
Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
When we’ve reached the end of the road (reached the end of the road),
When we’ve reached the end of the road (reached the end of the road),
I will carry us home.

I just saw this video today, and I nearly cried watching it the first time. It’s amazingly well-done, and gives the song’s lyrics a whole new context. Watch it.

SoTD: From Where You Are

Lifehouse
Album:N/A
—–
So far away from where you are;
These miles have torn us worlds apart,
And I miss you, yeah, I miss you.

So far away from where you are;
I’m standing underneath the stars,
And I wish you were here.

I miss the years that were erased,
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face,
I miss all the little things;
I never thought that they’d mean everything to me.
Yeah, I miss you,
And I wish you were here.

I feel the beating of your heart,
I see the shadows of your face,
Just know that wherever you are
Yeah, I miss you,
And I wish you were here.

I miss the years that were erased,
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face,
I miss all the little things;
I never thought that they’d mean everything to me.
Yeah, I miss you,
And I wish you were here.

So far away from where you are;
These miles have torn us worlds apart,
And I miss you, yeah I miss you,
And I wish you were here.

This song (and the video) were composed for Allstate’s Teen Driving program, and the video is dedicated to all the teen victims of car crashes. Even so, the song actually feels uplifting, and it always reminds me of the good memories of the people I miss =].

SoTD: The Unwinding Cable Car

Anberlin
Album: Cities
—–
Your motive, unstable;
You’re like an unwinding cable car.
Listening for voices,
But it’s the choices that make us who we are.

Go your own way,
Even seasons have changed,
Just burn those new leaves over.
So self-absorbed,
You’ve seemed to ignore
The prayers that have already come about.

This is the correlation
Of salvation and love;
Don’t drop your arms,
I’ll guard your heart,
With quiet words I’ll lead you in.

Backing away from the problem of pain,
You never had a home.
You’ve been misguided,
You’re hiding in shadows for so very long.

Don’t you believe that you’ve been deceived?
That you’re no better than…
The hair in your eyes, it never disguised
What you were really thinking of.

This is the correlation
Of salvation and love;
Don’t drop your arms,
I’ll guard your heart,
With quiet words I’ll lead you in.
[x2]

You’re so brilliant,
Don’t soon forget.
You’re so brilliant,
Grace marked your heart.
[x3]

This is the correlation
Of salvation and love;
Don’t drop your arms,
I’ll guard your heart,
With quiet words I’ll lead you in.

SoTD: 21 Guns

Green Day
Album: 21st Century Breakdown
—–
Do you know what’s worth fighting for,
When it’s not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away,
And you feel yourself suffocating?

Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Did someone break your heart inside?
You’re in ruins…

One, 21 guns.
Lay down your arms,
Give up the fight.
One, 21 guns.
Throw up your arms
Into the sky,
You and I.

When you’re at the end of the road,
And you’ve lost all sense of control;
And your thoughts have taken their toll,
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul.

Your faith walks on broken glass,
And the hangover doesn’t pass.
Nothing’s ever built to last,
You’re in ruins…
One, 21 guns.
Lay down your arms,
Give up the fight.
One, 21 guns.
Throw up your arms
Into the sky,
You and I.

Did you try to live on your own,
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone.

When it’s time to live and let die,
And you can’t get another try,
Something inside this heart has died,
You’re in ruins…
One, 21 guns.
Lay down your arms,
Give up the fight.
One, 21 guns.
Throw up your arms
Into the sky.

One, 21 guns.
Lay down your arms,
Give up the fight.
One, 21 guns.
Throw up your arms
Into the sky,
You and I.

SoTD: True Faith

New Order
Album: Substance
—–
I feel so extraordinary,
Something’s got a hold on me.
I get this feeling I’m in motion;
A sudden sense of liberty.

I don’t care ’cause I’m not there,
And I don’t care if I’m here tomorrow.
Again and again, I’ve taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much.

I used to think that the day would never come,
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun.
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear.
I used to think that the day would never come,
That my life would depend on the morning sun.

When I was a very small boy,
Very small boys talked to me.
Now that we’ve grown up together,
They’re afraid of what they see.

That’s the price that we all pay;
Our valued destiny comes to nothing.
I can’t tell you where we’re going,
I guess there’s just no way of knowing.

I used to think that the day would never come,
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun.
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, displaced by fear.
I used to think that the day would never come,
That my life would depend on the morning sun.

I feel so extraordinary,
Something’s got a hold on me.
I get this feeling I’m in motion;
A sudden sense of liberty.

The chances are, we’ve gone too far;
You took my time, and you took my money.
Now, I fear you’ve left me standing
In a world that’s so demanding.

I used to think that the day would never come,
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun.
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear.

I used to think that the day would never come,
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun.
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, displaced by fear.
I used to think that the day would never come,
That my life would depend on the morning sun.

Morning sun… (x6)

I think that’s got to be one of the weirdest music videos I’ve ever seen. Great song, though.
