On Calgary Weather

It seems that only in Calgary will a “Severe Weather Warning” be issued only 10 minutes before the streets and buildings are pelted with golfball-sized hail. Ten minutes previous to this storm starting, I was strolling down the streets of downtown, which, while not sunny, were dry and rather warm. I got into the door of Western Canadian Place, and all hell broke loose. By the time I got up to my cubicle, the view from my window was literally pitch-black. At 1:45pm in the afternoon, the “Severe Thunderstorm” (predicted ten minutes previously) unleashed its fury.

I feel SO bad for everyone at the Stampede right now! My cubiclemate is fretting about his car, in an open parking lot down the road. Phones are ringing. People are standing at their windows, and the thunder is loud enough to vibrate the floor. Yay for the most unpredictable weather system in Western Canada.

EDIT (2:15pm):  For certain parts of Alberta around Calgary (not Calgary itself), this has now been upgraded to a tornado warning. Jeesh.

On Good Online Customer Service

It is awesome! And gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, to boot. A company which is an excellent example of prompt, friendly, and non-outsourced customer service? Apparent Corporation (http://www.itsapparent.com). I had a question, which I emailed through their website’s Support form, and got a friendly, informative answer within 10 minutes. Nice work, Apparent!

P.S: If you’re wondering what I was doing emailing Apparent in the first place, I had ordered a Doxie scanner from them (which is the coolest scanner I have ever seen, by the way), and had a question about shipping.

On My Forthcoming Pseudo-Diet Experiment

So for those of you who haven’t heard me whine and complain about this already, I managed somehow at the beginning of the summer to put on a rather unappealing amount of fat in the stomach area. Normally, since I have a high metabolism and naturally slim figure, this doesn’t happen, but somehow, it did. And I thoroughly dislike it. Now, don’t get me wrong– I’m not saying I’m fat. I’ve still got a rather low BMI for my age and height BUT. I just would like to have my previously-flat stomach back plsthx. So I’ve been working out quite a bit more than I used to, and am trying to eat healthier… but this week, I wanted to try a little experiment.

For every working day this week (Mon-Fri), I will replace my normally unhealthy lunches with a large Jugo Juice fruit shake (+protein) as main meal replacement, and perhaps a salad on the side for additional greens. I want to see what this does to my system, and whether or not my eating habits have actually been making a dent in my health. So, to start, here are some measurements:

Waist: 27 in
Thigh: 20in
Stomach (at largest part): 31in
Butt + Hips: 35in

Unfortunately I can’t get my weight right now, but the point of this is actually not to lose weight. It’s to lose fat. Maybe they’re not entirely mutually exclusive, but I’m really not concerned about my weight, so if it goes up or down right now, it doesn’t matter. So let’s see how this goes! I’ll post updates as I go, so keep checking back! :)
